Characteristics of vernacular architecture are not often seen in urban areas. This can be for a number of reasons, such as the difficulty of making age-old techniques and materials work in a modern setting.
.
This home, built in Vadodara, is a great example of how vernacular architecture can be used in an urban context. The three-bedroom home with a pool was designed for a family of four and incorporates eco-friendly features like plenty of natural light and good ventilation. The home's design blends in nicely with its natural surroundings.
.
The layout is divided into two blocks, one containing all the living areas and the other containing bedrooms. Between the two blocks are the leisure components of the pool and a gazebo. This area also connects the Miyawaki Forest in the north and a buffer green wall with tall trees towards the south.
